London named new low carbon area

by Low Carbon team on March 18, 2010

London streetLondon has been designated the UK’s latest Low Carbon Economic Area (LCEA), with a focus on energy efficient buildings.

It is the seventh LCEA to be announced since the Low Carbon Industrial Strategy was announced in July 2009.

The preliminary focus of the London LCEA is on retrofitting – making buildings more energy efficient. This expected to help London and the UK be an early leader in this emerging sector.

Business Minister Ian Lucas said:

“London will be a world-leading centre for energy efficient buildings, specialising in retrofitting activity. The variety of buildings across London means that there will be a wide range of highly exportable skills. This position of global leadership will help create wealth for London and the UK economy by providing market opportunities for businesses and inward investors, and jobs for Londoners.
