What we do

We work with our agencies and partners to support the transport network that helps the UK’s businesses and gets people and goods travelling around the country. We plan and invest in transport infrastructure to keep the UK on the move.

DFT is a ministerial department, supported by 21 agencies and public bodies.

  2. UK economy

All parts of the economy are growing - but the government still has a huge amount to do through continuing to create jobs and supporting businesses to grow. Our policies

  1. Managing, improving and investing in the road network

Making roads clearer by giving local councils the power to remove road signage clutter, enforce parking controls and manage street works.

Fair and effective regulation will help shift freight from road to rail and water, moving it safely and securely across the UK and abroad
