Outdoor fun for KoziKidz

Outdoor clothing designer and manufacturer Buttercross Trading from Doncaster expand at German trade show.

Having received UKTI TAP assistance to attend the world’s leading trade show for the Outdoor branch, OutDoor in Germany, the children’s outdoor clothing designer and manufacturer Buttercross Trading from Doncaster with it’s Kozi Kidz brand was ready for its first international trade show. As well as profiting from financial assistance to visit the show, the company was helped on the ground by Valerie Mugan from the UKTI team in Germany.

Valerie was able to assist by translating the company’s flyer and using her contacts on the German market to organise appointments with Globetrotter, Germany’s largest outdoor retailer and Germany’s two main buying groups Intersport and Sport 2000 prior to the show. The show resulted in a sharp increase in orders throughout Europe and a 25% rise in export sales since the show. With 120 retailers now to supply in 9 countries the company has had to take on an additional 2 employees to cope with the work load. The revenue in September, just 2 months after the fair, was the equivalent of the first 6 months of 2009.

Tomas Torstensson, Sales and Co-Managing Director said “Overall we had a fantastic response from “big and small” retailers. This was the first time we had attended an international show and we are a new brand in this market. Our approach to this event was more of a “see and learn” experience and we were not expecting immediate business as a result”.

“UKTI’s really helped us get the maximum out of our first international show and we very much look forward to working with the team again”

The company is intending to commission an Overseas Market Introduction Service (OMIS) with the Germany UKTI team to arrange a press release and appointments prior to the ISPO 2011 sports fair in Munich to ensure maximum success.
