Sector Coverage

Lifelong Learning UK is the Sector Skills Council for:

community based learning and development;
further education;
higher education;
library and information services; and
work-based learning.

Sector in Brief

The strategic significance of Lifelong Learning UK cannot be underestimated. It is the cornerstone of UK-wide policy to widen participation in education and training, to promote social inclusion and to increase prosperity. An increased participation in lifelong learning has the potential to enhance economic productivity and global competitiveness.

Lifelong Learning UK has a unique role to play in the Skills for Business network for two reasons. Firstly, employers from all other sectors will look to this SSC for the standards and qualifications of the people who deliver learning in their own workforce. Secondly, the SSC will be taking strategic actions that will impact as much on the supply side as on the demand side.
