Deanery of Christ Church, Oxford

The Queen has approved that the Very Reverend Christopher Andrew Lewis BA, PhD, Dean of St Albans, be appointed Dean of Christ Church, Oxford in succession to the Very Reverend John Henry Drury MA on his resignation.

Dean Lewis (born 1944) was in the Royal Navy from 1961 to 1966. He was Curate at Barnard Castle from 1973 to 1976. He taught at Ripon College Cuddesdon between 1976 and 1982, during which time he was Senior Tutor and then Vice Principal. Between 1978 and 1981 he was also Priest-in-Charge, Aston Rowant and Crowell. From 1982 to 1987 he was Vicar of Spalding. From 1987 to 1994 he was a Canon Residentiary of Canterbury Cathedral. He was Director of Ministerial Training for the diocese from 1989 to 1994. Since 1994 he has been Dean of St Albans and he became Chairman of the Association of English Cathedrals in 2000. He is also Chairman of the Inspections Working Party for theological training institutions of the Church of England.

Dean Lewis is married to Rona and they have two sons and one daughter.
