Suffragan See of Jarrow

The Queen has approved that the Venerable John Lawrence Pritchard

MA M.Litt Dip Th be appointed to the Suffragan See of Jarrow in the Diocese of Durham in succession to the Right Reverend Alan Smithson on his resignation on 31 December 2001.

Notes for Editor

The Venerable John Pritchard (aged 53) studied for his first degree at St Peter’s College, Oxford and trained for the ordained ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He served his first curacy at St Martin’s, Birmingham between 1972 and 1976. Betweeen 1976 and 1980 he was Diocesan Youth Officer in the Bath and Wells Diocese. Between 1980 to 1988 he was Priest in Charge of Wilton (Taunton) in Bath and Wells. From 1989 to 1993 he was Director of Pastoral Studies at Cranmer Hall Durham, and from 1993 to 1996 was Warden. He moved to his present post in 1996.

John Pritchard is married to Wendy and they have two daughters. His interests are varied, including among other things fell walking and writing.
