The Information Standards Board for Health and Social Care (ISB) closed on 31 March 2014.

Responsibility for the recommendation for approval of information standards has transferred to the Standardisation Committee for Care Information (SCCI).

Information standards continued to be published here until 31 December 2014, after which they are published on the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) website.

Approving Standards

Information on this page applied to the development and approval of information standards under the ISB. Governance now lies with the Standardisation Committee for Care Information (SCCI).

Transition

The ISB ceased to exist from 31 March 2014. Responsibility for the national governance of information standards has transferred to the Standardisation Committee for Care Information (SCCI).

Arrangements to 31 March 2014

The Information Standards Board for Health and Social Care (ISB) was the board responsible for assuring and approving information standards for health and adult social care in England. Please see the links to the left of the page or the documents below for more information.

Please note that these documents reflect the position at March 2013.

Chairman

The chairman of ISB is appointed by the Department of Health and represents one of the key communities involved in health informatics. The current chairman is Professor Martin Severs, OBE FRCP FFPHM.

Severs

As well as being a practising Consultant Geriatrician, Professor Severs is the Associate Dean in Clinical Practice at the University of Portsmouth. He has over 20 years of experience in health informatics, including involvement, as chairman, in the IHTSDO Management Board and participation in the 2013 Caldicott Review of Information Governance. He is currently a special advisor to the Information Assurance directorate of the Health and Social Care Information Centre.
