Hampton Review of regulatory inspection and enforcement

In Budget 2004 the Chancellor asked Philip Hampton, the Chairman of J Sainsbury plc, to lead a review into regulatory inspection and enforcement with a view to reducing the administrative cost of regulation to the minimum consistent with maintaining the UK's excellent regulatory outcomes. The review has engaged with numerous stakeholders including regulators, business and local government.

The review expects to finish its work in time for the 2005 Budget.
