Financial stability and depositor protection: strengthening the framework

The tripartite authorities published a consultation document Financial stability and depositor protection on 30 January 2008. The consultation period closed on 23 April. During the consultation period the authorities held seven workshops on detailed policy issues and held over 30 bilateral meeting with financial trade associations, consumer groups, banks, building societies and academics. Around 100 written responses were submitted.

The authorities are now taking time to fully digest consultation responses and intend to consult further before the summer break. A summary of the consultation responses will also be published at this stage. The Government intends to bring forward legislation later this year, in the current parliamentary session.
