Independence for Statistics: A consultation document

On 28 November 2005, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced to Parliament the Government’s intention to legislate for independence in statistics.

Independence for statistics: a consultation document, published on 22 March 2006, set out the Government’s proposals, and invited views from all interested parties. The consultation process, which lasted for 12 weeks, generated significant interest, with nearly 80 responses received.

The Government has now published Independence for statistics: the Government response, which is available below.
