Food Standards Scotland Board appointed

The Scottish Minister for Public Health announced on 20 January 2015 the appointment of seven board members for Food Standards Scotland, the new food body which takes over the functions of the Food Standards Agency in Scotland from 1 April 2015. These appointments follow the appointment in November last year of Ross Finnie as Chair of the body.

Grace's poster design wins 1st prize

Having received 6,700 poster design entries from 240 primary schools, the Food Standards Agency in Scotland (FSAS) Calendar Competition 2014 was one of the best yet. The annual competition asks pupils to design artwork promoting good food hygiene, healthy eating and physical activity, as well as food allergy awareness.

Food and You Survey publishes findings for Scotland

The Food Standard Agency (FSA)’s Food and You survey has published findings specific to Scotland for 2014. This, the third wave of the survey, which is conducted every two years, provides information on reported behaviours, attitudes and knowledge relating to food safety and healthy eating issues in Scotland.

INTAKE24: development of online 24-hour dietary recall system in Scotland

An online tool has been developed to provide robust dietary data from 11-24 year olds in Scotland. The INTAKE24 tool is designed to be intuitive, engaging and quick and easy for participants to use - the average time taken to complete an INTAKE24 dietary recall is less than 15 minutes. The FSA in Scotland is now inviting tenders to field test the use of the tool.

Scotland National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) results published

The National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) results for Scotland have been published today. This report provides combined results covering the period from 2008 to 2012 and allows key comparisons with the UK NDNS results which were published in May 2014.
