Introduction to the Non-Proliferation Directorate.

The Non-Proliferation Directorate is part of the DTI’s Export Control and Non-Proliferation Directorate.

It is responsible for the following:

  • Nuclear, chemical and biological weapons non-proliferation issues.
  • Implementation and verification in the United Kingdom of relevant international regimes and conventions.
  • The International Atomic Energy Agency.
  • The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

In addition, XNP2 provide the UK membership of the Urenco Joint Committee, set up under the Treaty of Almelo (1970) arrangements which call for close co-operation between the Urenco enrichment enterprises in Germany, The Netherlands and the UK. Today, along with a presence in the US, they form the Urenco Group.
