Royal Marines in training

Synopsis

This practical lesson is based on some of the exercises featured in the Potential Royal
Marines Course (PRMC). The lesson encourages both self-guided learning and pair work.
The lesson is supported by a range of Student Worksheets and a set of PowerPoint slides
which can be used in the classroom prior to lesson delivery.

Knowledge / understanding of fitness components of local muscular endurance, stamina and suppleness.

Lower ability students will:
  • Appreciate that there is a difference between health and fitness and understand why sportspeople must adhere to keeping themselves healthy and fit for best performance.
  • Recognise that health is not just absence of illness but overall physical, mental and emotional well-being.
  • Have a basic understanding of the need for health and safety in Physical Education.
  • Have a basic understanding that the Royal Marines (and in fact all of the forces) have a duty to ensure that all service people are fit for their task as this could be the difference between life and death in combat.
Average ability students will:
  • Fully understand the difference between health and fitness and why sportspeople must adhere to keeping themselves healthy and fit for best performance.
  • Recognise that health is not just absence of illness but overall physical, mental and emotional well-being.
  • Recognise the need for health and safety in Physical Education and appreciate the need for risk assessments.
