Question: Request for information regarding the Damien Hirst painting "Pardaxin". Case Number 66113
In response we stated that:
The painting Pardaxin 2004 by Damien Hirst was purchased by the GAC in March 2005. Following purchase, in April and May 2005 the painting was framed and glazed with laminated museum glass, and its condition checked by a paintings conservator.
From 1 July to 22 December 2005 the painting was displayed in the European Union Council Building in Brussels as part of the United Kingdom EU Presidency display there.
Following its return to the UK at the end of the Presidency, the painting was again inspected by a conservator and from January to July 2006 was displayed at the GAC's premises in London. Here it was seen by visitors, including members of the general public on our regular pre-booked tours, including those who visited us during a special open day during Museums and Galleries Month, in May 2006.
From 10 July 2006 the painting has formed part of a British contemporary art display in the UK Ambassador's Residence in Paris where it can be seen by the many thousands of visitors. The painting was condition checked before being despatched to Paris.
