Question: Information about the GAC work Event on the Downs by Paul Nash. "Could you tell me where in Downing Street the picture hung, for how long and whether there was any record of who requested it". Case Number 12037
In response we stated that: The painting 'Event on the Downs' by Paul Nash hung on the landing at 10 Downing Street from March 2004 to January 2005 as part of a display of works of art by major 20th century British artists.
This work of art formed part of the selected display made by the Government Art Collection for that location. It is no longer on display there because we recalled it for loan to the exhibition An Aside, which began in February (we also maintain a policy of lending our holdings to public exhibitions.
After its return from this exhibition, and in order to continue to fulfil our remit, the painting will return to display in another prominent building.
