
Energy Group deals with energy-related matters from production to supply. It is committed to delivering the Government’s policy goals of safe, secure and sustainable energy supplies and ultimately a low-carbon economy, through competitive and independently regulated energy markets.
Energy is essential in almost every aspect of our lives and for the success of our economy, but we face two long-term challenges:
The Government’s current energy policy was set out in the Energy White Paper of May 2007, building on previous work including the 2003 Energy White Paper and the Energy Review Report in 2006.
The 2007 White Paper sets out the Government’s international and domestic energy strategy to respond to the changing circumstances in global energy markets and to address the long term energy challenges we face. Our strategy can be summarised as follows:
