Panel on Fair Access to the Professions
The New Opportunities White Paper published in January 2009 set out the Government’s measures to tackle social inequality and announced the creation of a Panel on Fair Access to the Professions
Chaired by Alan Milburn, the Panel looked at the processes and structures currently governing recruitment to the professions and focused on the actions that could be taken by them, supported by Government where necessary, to widen access and make entry procedures more flexible.
A research paper was published by the Panel in April 2009 highlighting key trends and issues in access to the professions. It identified where progress had been made in widening access and also where barriers still exist.
