Informed Citizenship Seminar
24 November 2004 (morning session)
As part of the BBC Charter Review, Lord Burns (the Secretary of State's independent advisor on Charter Review) will be chairing a number of informed seminars on aspects of the BBC’s activities, including one looking at the BBC's contribution to Informed Citizenship.
Our project on 'informed citizenship' was designed to provide an opportunity to examine a range of issues around what the BBC does to equip people with the skills and knowledge to take part in public debate. It examined the BBC's activities in a range of contexts - ranging from elections through to wider public participation in debate of local and national issues. It looked at a spectrum of services to support the public - from coverage of news and current affairs to i-Can - the BBC's online space for public debate. These issues were debated during this seminar.
