The data for National Indicators 171 and 172 are produced by the Office for National Statistics. This data is available through the CLG Hub here and the FTI website here but is also made available below.

Since the National Indicators have been discontinued by the Department for Communities
and Local Government, this data will not be updated. The latest information on new
business registrations can be found on the Office for National Statistics website

171 - New business registration rate
The 2008 data for this indicator is available here. To reflect revisions to the number of business births in 2007 in the ONS National Statistics Business Demography 2008 publication (released 30 November 2009), new data is presented for 2007. Due to changes in local authority boundaries, data for 2008 is presented based on the old and new geographies. A back series to 2002 is also provided.

172 - Percentage of small businesses in an area showing employment growth
The 2007-08 data for this indicator is available here. Please note that due to the discovery of an error in the data supplied for column B (the number of registered enterprises with employment of less than 50 in first year and that still exist in the second year), data for 2002-03 to 2006-07 has been revised.
