Terms and Conditions

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to everyone. People access the web in many different ways and BIS promotes inclusion for all, regardless of disability, capability or technology.

The Department has worked extensively to achieve accessibility with this site, seeking to meet Level Double-A accessibility under the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, as mandated by Government website guidelines.

The site is designed also to meet the following standards:

Accessibility policy

Our accessibility policy document provides clear accessibility principles that all BIS organisational websites are required to follow:

Website accessibility policy (DOC, 233KB)

We are aware that some of our non-HTML content is not as accessible as it could be. PDF documents, for example, may not always be optimised for accessibility.

There is a limitation of the technology used to create forms available throughout the site which associates labels and input fields incorrectly. This can make the use of forms more complicated when using assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Where non-accessible content is discovered, we will attempt to fix the problem. If this is not possible, we will provide alternative formats on request.

Access keys

The UK Government Access Keys Standard has been applied to this site. These provide a keyboard shortcut for users wishing to go directly to specific parts of the site and help those who do not use a pointing device, such as a mouse. A subset of the standard has been used and the access keys are defined as follows:

  • S – Skip to main content of page
  • 1 – Home page

  • 6 – Help accessing our website
