HP – DEFENCE APPRENTICES
“HP has committed to creating 60 new entry level technology apprenticeships in the Gosport, Portsmouth and Glasgow areas over the next three years, linked to the fulfillment of its contract running the systems that manage pay, pensions and administration for over 900,000 serving and retired members of the UK Armed Forces.
A key part of the new programme will be periods working at the small and mid-sized technology companies in the UK that HP works with to create this most important of IT systems. By spending time at these companies, HP aims to give its apprentices a deeper understanding of suppliers’ solutions and provide valuable resource for these small- and mid-sized companies.
“Innovative technology from UK based suppliers plays a vital role in our work for the Ministry of Defence. Every day the nation’s heroes get paid using solutions supplied by SMEs in the UK, as part of a complete service brought together by HP. Investing in the next generation of IT skills is R&D investment for us,” commented Nick Wilson, Vice President and Managing Director of HP in the UK.
HP provides a range of systems and services to the Ministry of Defence in the UK. In the last year alone, the company has sourced over £110m of products and services from some 400 SME suppliers delivering these critical functions for the government.
Alongside these new apprenticeships, HP runs graduate and intern programs that provide hundreds of young people with business and technology skills fundamental to long-term growth.”
