Vince Cable announced the appointment of Lord Currie as Chair Designate to the new Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Lord Currie will take up his four year appointment during the summer. The Chair’s appointment will be subject to the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill receiving Royal Assent, and to scrutiny by the Business Innovation and Skills Select Committee.
New clauses were included in the Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (ERR) Bill to update and strengthen the UK’s copyright licensing system.
The amendments follow on from the Secretary of State for Business’ announcement last week in which he set out a comprehensive package of reforms to improve the governance framework for directors’ remuneration.
The second reading of the ERR Bill is due today. In his opening speech, Business Secretary Vince Cable will announce the government’s plans for greater business flexibility and quicker resolution for workplace disputes.
