Working Parents Hot Topics


A consultation of the laws for working parents was launched on 28 February 2005. Click here for the press release.

The consultation follows commitments announced in the 2004 pre-budget report. Visit the Treasury website for more information.

Occupational pension rights during paternity and adoption leave. New provisions in the Pensions Act which change the rules on pension contributions by bringing them into line with contributions during maternity leave come into force on 6 April 2005. More detail is available here.

Changes to continuity of employment rules for SMP, SPP and SAP to take account of the new statutory dispute resolution procedures will come into force on 6 April 2005. More detail is available here.

We have produced a good practice guide for employers on fathers and antenatal appointments, which is available here.

Increase in the standard rate of SMP, SAP and SPP. From 3 April 2005, the standard rate of SMP, SAP and SPP increase from £102.80 per week to £106 per week (or 90% of the person's average weekly earnings if that is less than £106). The changes will be included in the Department for Work and Pensions Social Security Benefits Uprating Order 2005.
