MTQ 1 At first you'll be in Sir John Moore Company for recruit training. Recruit training takes 2 terms and is called MTQ 1 (Military Training Qualification Level 1). It doesn't matter if you have never had any military experience before, we will teach you everything from how wear your uniform correctly to how to safely hold and fire a rifle. You'll complete MTQ 1 at the Easter Camp and will then be promoted into Alanbrooke Company which is our Advanced Training Wing.
MTQ 2 In Alanbrooke Company you'll really start to develop as a leader. MTQ 2 teaches you how to solve military problems and present a convincing solution to an audience; you'll grow in confidence as you do this - and pass the exam in December of your second year. You'll move onto a higher pay rate as well.
MTQ 3 MTQ 3 combines the basic military skills learnt in MTQ 1 with the leadership skills from MTQ 2, and trains you to lead other cadets in the field. It'll really polish up all your skills - tactics, field craft , weapon handling, map reading, first aid, and the use of military radios (signals). It takes place in March each year, and lasts 9 days. If you pass, you have acquired the basic skills needed to attend the 3 week long, prestigious TA Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Special to Arm Troops/Platoons Oxford UOTC has 4 troops or platoons within Alanbrooke Company - Royal Artillery (RA), Royal Armoured Corps (RAC), Infantry, and Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME). After MTQ 1, you can choose which to join. The troops and platoons provide lots of extra variety as you carry on with MTQ - but they also provide your social focus and friends.
