Adventurous Training

Three members of W Squadron, RY, in South Africa

Members of the Royal Yeomanry frequently have the chance to take part in exciting adventurous training and sporting activities both in Britain and abroad. These activities are seen as a vital part of being a TA soldier, helping to build fitness, teamwork and confidence.

Every year there is a week-long ski trip open to all levels of skier, from advanced to ‘never been up a mountain before’!

New activities are always being planned and almost all opportunities are open to anyone in the regiment, regardless of rank. Serving members should request information on any upcoming activities from their chain of command.

There have been numerous recent opportunities for adventurous training that have been undertaken by members of the regiment, which have included:

  • A ten-day cycling trip to South Africa
  • A weekend surfing in Newquay
  • Yachting in the Caribbean and the Baltic
  • Inter-regimental cricket matches
  • Clay pigeon shooting
