'I love the work and lifestyle in the Royal Signals. It's an incredible professional environment, but it's also great for sport and adventurous training - I love canoeing and white-water rafting'
TRAINING
There are three broad phases of training. The length and timing of each phase will vary depending on your trade and each trade has three grades (Class 3 up to Class 1). You will have the opportunity to train in order to achieve greater skills in your trade and enjoy associated benefits such as promotion, greater responsibility, and higher salaries. Progression will always depend on your successful completion of military and trade up-grade courses.
PHASE ONE
Standard Entry soldiers attend basic military training for 14 weeks at an Army Training Regiment. Junior Entry soldiers attend either the Army Foundation College for 42 weeks or the Army Development Course for 20 weeks.
Soldiers will attend trade training at the Royal School of Signals Blandford, Dorset. Trade course length varies from 6 weeks up to 45 weeks plus driver training.
You begin learning on-the-job with your first posting - you could find yourself on operations straightaway in somewhere like Bosnia, Iraq or Afghanistan or you could be posted to countries like Cyprus, Canada or Germany.
