The Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) is a simple system of components that can be used to construct a hand-built bridge capable of taking the heaviest armoured vehicles.
This includes bridges for battle situations, as well as lower intensity warfare situations. It's called the family of bridges because the bridge parts are the same for both the ready-made bridge and the mechanically assisted built bridges.
The general support bridge system uses the automated bridge launching equipment that can launch bridges 44 m long. The close support (battle situation) bridges consist of three different tank-launched bridges capable of being carried on the in-service chieftain bridgelayer and a TBT truck.
There are also two basic spanning systems for the general support bridge. The long span system allows for lengthening a 32 m span to 44 m, while the two span system allows two 32 m bridge sets to be constructed and secured in the middle by piers or floating pontoons, crossing a gap of 60 m. |
