Welsh Transport Regiment (V) Catrawd Cludiant Cymru (V)
Welsh Transport Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers) is a Territorial Army (TA) 3rd Line Logistic Support Unit assigned to 2 Logistic Support Group which is part of the Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) multi-national transport and supply organisation.
Although assigned to the ARRC in general war, the Regiment is multi functional and multi faceted in nature, thus able to support the Regular Army across the whole spectrum of operations.
This includes Operations Other Than War (OOTW), such as peace support tasks, and support to the national and local authorities.
With the Regimental Headquarters based in Maindy Barracks Cardiff, the Regiment has four sabre squadrons (three transport squadrons and a combat supply squadron), a support squadron and a Workshop located in 9 Territorial Army Centres (TACs) spread across an area of some 350 miles.
From Carmarthen and Haverfordwest in the far West through South Wales to West Bromwich and Stoke-on-Trent in the Midlands to Telford in the Potteries, the Regiment has a huge catchment area for recruiting. With a peacetime strength of 648 all ranks, the Regiment is one of the bigger units in the TA and certainly the biggest in Wales.
In war our strength swells to some 900 all ranks as does the considerable logistic support capabilities we could provide.
The Regiment regularly provides TA soldiers on attachment to serve in operational theatres such as the Balkans and Sierra Leone, and to support training in Germany, Canada and Cyprus.
The Strategic Defence Review (SDR) for the TA is now complete and the Regiment has restructured, reorganised and reroled in recent years. Despite the considerable changes, recruiting is buoyant, the commitment of the soldiers as strong as ever and support from employers increasing all the time.
Welsh Transport Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps (Volunteers) is an operationally capable TA Regiment, highly trained and ready to take its place in the Field Army Order of Battle if called upon.
