The Regimental One Day's Pay Scheme (ODPS)
What is the ODPS?
The ODPS is a procedure, which is adopted throughout the Army, where serving soldiers voluntarily donate a sum of money (usually a days pay) to the Regimental Association. You may give more, or less, as you wish. This donation will be deducted at source from your pay in twelve monthly instalments so you will not lose full days pay all at once; you will hardly notice the difference. Up to 90%n of serving soldiers are already subscribing.
What is the Money used for?
The money is primarily used to provide welfare support and benevolence to serving members, ex members, and their dependants, of the Regiment who are need. Other uses of the fund are the production of the Regimental Journal. Benevolence and welfare assistance will also be available from the Associations of each of the old Regiments for those who served in them. The Regimental Trustees are legally bound to ensure that all expenditure of the Fund is in furtherance of the objectives of the Association.
Gift Aid.
Gift Aid is a tax incentive to help boost income from charities. Once you, the donor, have signed the Gift Aid Declaration Form the Association can claim back the tax you have paid on the donation. This amounts to 28% (£2.82 on every £10 you pay), and at no extra cost to you. There is no need for serving soldiers to complete a Gift Aid Declaration as this will be deducted by the systems administrator. Non serving subscribers must complete a Gift Aid Declaration form.
Changes to ODPS.
Regimental Subscriptions, one days pay each year, are deducted over twelve calendar months. There is no extra charge to you the subscriber and it happens automatically. You will hardly notice the difference.
What happens when I leave the Regiment or the Army?
Subscriptions will cease automatically on discharge from the Army or transfer to another cap badge. However, anyone who has paid into the fund is entitled to assistance from it if they are in need. Those requiring assistance should contact the Regimental Association or SSAFA in the first instance.
Remember, RHQ is here to look after you during your service and long after you have left the Regiment.
