The night which also included disco and karaoke saw a good turn out and the UWO funds were over £110 better off.

Live from Edinburgh Castle
| Mark McKenzie’s recent live broadcast from Edinburgh Castle featured interviews with many of those based at the Castle as well as Tattoo and Fringe stars including former Catchphrase host Roy Walker, who served in the army for 6 years.
Other "on air" guests included the GOC Major General David McDowall, who is also the Governor of Edinburgh Castle. He told Mark he hopes to mark his retirement next year by being The Lone Piper at the last night of the Tattoo.
Sergeant James Shannon, a.k.a ‘Shannon the Cannon’ spoke to Garrison FM shortly before making his way to fire The One O'clock Gun. Telling Mark that barely a day passes without him being asked by tourists "what time is the One O'clock Gun fired at?"
On a similar note, Colonel Andrew Campbell Deputy Commander of 52 Brigade, also based at the Castle, told of the two Japanese tourists who oblivious to the No Entry signs made their way into the Officers Mess and demanded lunch.
The broadcast ended with Pipe Major Jason Sumner playing "We're no awa tae bide awa"

Garrison FM Looks Good Naked
|
On a recent visit to Scotland's capital, channel 4's How To Look Good Naked presenter Gok Wan took time out to chat to Garrison FM's Jules Barnes. He explained to Jules how the British Army are leading the way in fashion this year with 'camouflage' the new black.
As you can see from the pictures, Gok also had an eye for the presenter too, I think he had ideas of what Jules should be wearing in the studio to attract even more listeners but the idea of less is more didn't quite appeal to our Jules....

An Unusual Celebrity Birthday
The month of August saw the first birthday of 98.5 Garrison FM, although the station has been broadcasting since March 2005 this is the first full year of FM transmissions and in that time we have broadcast some memorable moments. We are looking forward to many more years broadcasting from our Dreghorn Barracks studios with of course many more memorable moments.
Taking part in the celebrations were Station Manager and Breakfast show host Dave Knight and Presenter Kelly Nicholls, Teresa Rowe, broadcast assistant was on hand with the camera to capture the moment, although it is a bit strange to see Dave with a knife in his hand as he’s not allowed to have any sharp objects in the studio, wonder how he managed that…. |

Garrison FM Goes National
|
As part of a series of programmes being featured on BBC Radio Scotland about community radio, Garrison FM was chosen to take part.
David Flynn, Producer of the programmes came along to the Dreghorn Barracks studio’s to chat to Breakfast show host Dave Knight and Teresa Rowe, the programme will feature a day in the life of a community radio station and follows Teresa as she goes about her daily tasks. I have to say that although a bit daunting Teresa managed to carry it of remarkably well and did Garrison FM proud, well done Teresa. The show will be broadcast all over Scotland later on in the year.
