133 Workshop Company Reme

133 Workshop Company can trace its roots back to the formation of REME, when it served during 1942 in the Middle East as 133 Infantry Brigade Workshop. Today the Company is based at a modern TA Centre in Ashford, Kent.

There is a whole range of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), Royal Logistic Corps (RLC), Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) and Adjutant General's Corps (AGC) trades and posts available as Ashford, all of which are in direct support of our role as a workshop. We repair Army kit which is too badly damaged to be repaired closer to the front line and has been moved back to a secure location on the Line of Communication in the Area of Operations.

The Company trains every Tuesday night from 8 pm to 10 pm, when soldiers undertake trade or military training or prepare for the next exercise. Usually the bar is open at the end of the evening so that everyone can relax and catch up over a drink.

About two weekends a month we train either at Ashford, looking after our own kit, or deploy in order to practice workshop mobilisation - moving into tactical locations in order to repair and maintain military equipment. Individuals have the opportunity to develop their military and technical skills by attending REME training courses, often with their Regular Army counterparts.

The Company has always been keen to get involved with the local community. Each year we participate in village fêtes and other local activities, actively encourage the general public to visit Company open days. As the only REME unit in the area, 133 Workshop Company represents the Corps at the Remembrance Day parade in Lenham, where in 1944, during the build up to D Day, a REME Workshop was hit by a V2 rocket killing many REME soldiers.

Within the Company we have soldiers from all sectors of the community: like a rocket scientist with a PhD, musicians, teachers, Civil Servants who simply want to test themselves with new challenges in ways that they do not have the opportunities to do in their civilian careers.

Being in the Territorial Army takes a great deal of commitment from both us and from you. However, you will be trained to do a technical job, will probably be much fitter than you have ever been and will enjoy frequent opportunities for sport, travel and meet new friends.
