128 Workshop Company Reme
128 Workshop Company REME, based in Hilsea, a quiet leafy suburb of North Portsmouth, is a Territorial Army (TA) Unit predominately dedicated to the repair of all Military Vehicles.  Part of 103 Battalion REME, with its Headquarters in West Sussex, it is one of four Companies to make up the Battalion.   We are a well established REME unit which prides itself on its team work. The Company recruits from around Portsmouth the Isle of Wight and southern Hampshire , and offers a wide range of REME trades.

Our peacetime role is to assist our regular counterparts in the repair of equipment ensuring their earliest return back into service. We also regularly assist in providing Individual reinforcements to enduring operations.

 We offer individuals the very best training in general soldiering skills such as physical fitness, fieldcraft and weapon handling, before progressing on to learn valuable trade and management skills. The Company has men and women of diverse backgrounds, from people in full time employment or education, to those who are unemployed, and some former members of the Regular Armed Forces.

The Company trains from 7:30pm to 9:30pm every Tuesday and generally on two weekends a month. Weekend training is rewarding and exciting and often takes the form of deploying to a Regular Army  Unit where we work alongside our Regular Army colleagues. Over the past six years we have trained on annual camps in Belize, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, USA and Australia. Volunteers from the Company have also completed six-month tours with the Regular Army in Iraq.

 The value of the Company's training has been regularly demonstrated. We have competed and won Exercise Southern Craftsman, the premier REME TA military and technical skills competition, on no fewer than five occasions. Currently, we are the inter-Company sports champions. Our football  team has in the past won the TA South of England football competition which involves more than 50 TA units. Members of the Company also regularly compete in local road races, including the Great South Run.

We are well known and respected within the local community. As one of the best recruited TA centers in the area we pride ourselves on our involvement in local events and we provide a lead element in the Portsmouth Remembrance Day parade in the Guildhall Square. We also provide support to the annual Para Spectacular and Military Tattoo held on Southsea common and regularly support local school fetes and college fairs.

We all share a common goal - to get more out of life; and a common commitment; to give up some of our spare time to play a vitally important part in the nation's fighting forces. We are a fun and rewarding Company to belong to, with a very strong family identity, and an active social calendar that provides a good balance of work and play.
