Richard Branson triggers global debate about Young Enterprise 'fit for work' survey.
Virgin tycoon Richard Branson has sparked a phenomenal global debate about the Young Enterprise ‘fit for work’ survey on the day youth unemployment hit a record 991,000. The billionaire set the worldwide Twitter network alight by tweeting about our research showing 75% of firms think British education gives the young the wrong skills for work.
He sent out an electronic message reading: ‘’Interesting - @youngenterprise poll find schools give young people wrong skills for work. Do you agree?''
Within seconds the Twitter system was abuzz with dozens, then hundreds of comments from every corner of the globe – the vast majority agreeing with the findings.Mr Branson is in an extraordinarily powerful position to publicise the causes he supports on social media, as he has no fewer than 1,418,553 people who follow him on Twitter.

Three out of four firms (75%) feel the British education system is not equipping young people with the skills they need to enter the workforce, according to a new poll of major employers.This troubling verdict comes in a survey of 28 of this country’s most significant companies and professional bodies conducted for Young Enterprise by the strategic market research company, Freshminds.The survey respondents were drawn from among Young Enterprise’s corporate supporters. This group included some of Britain’s biggest employers including Kraft, HSBC, BT, GKN, P&G (Procter & Gamble), General Electric, Cisco, Citi, Santander and the Chartered Institutes of Accounting and Marketing.
