UNITAID's mission is to contribute to scaling up access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, primarily for people in low-income countries, by leveraging price reductions for quality diagnostics and medicines and accelerating the pace at which these are made available.

The objective of the Millennium Foundation is to develop innovative sources of funding to support the achievement of the health-related UN Millennium Development Goals: the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, and the promotion of maternal and child health. As of November 1, 2010, the Medicines Patent Pool has transitioned out of UNITAID, and is functioning as a separate legal entity. UNITAID continues to support the Medicines Patent Pool and is funding its operations under a five-year Memorandum of Understanding. More
