This Sector Qualifications Strategy (SQS) for the Active Leisure and Learning sector sets out a vision for a sustainable system of training, development and qualifications that is accessible to all and will form the framework for delivery for the foreseeable future.

The SQS may inform the rationalisation of accredited qualifications in the future and will influence funding bodies across the UK in the distribution of public funds to support the delivery of accredited qualifications. In essence, the SQS will be one of the mechanisms to address the current and future skills requirements for the Active Leisure and Learning workforce.

SkillsActive's vision:

"A highly skilled and competent workforce in an industry equipped to fulfil its potential at the centre of the economic and social development of the UK"

SkillsActive's goals:

  • To involve more employers and their workforce in best practice based training anddevelopment programmes, thereby reducing skills gaps and shortages, improving productivity and lifting business and public service performance
  • To take a strategic lead in developing a new, demand-led, flexible supply of learning andskills development that meets the needs of workers (paid and unpaid) and organisations, aswell as providers from the active leisure and learning sector
  • To work with partners across the UK to agree common messages, as well as cohesive,innovative ways of boosting the skills of the active leisure and learning workforce
