Skills for Logistics is the Sector Skills Council for the freight logistics industries.

Purpose

The Sector Qualifications Strategy (SQS) follows on from the Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) to provide a plan of actions and reforms required to ensure that qualifications used by the freight logistics industries (also referred to in this document as the logistics industry) meet the needs of the sector’s employers, enabling them to benefit from the increased capability of their workforce, and for individuals to experience structured career progression.
The strategy takes account of existing qualifications that already have currency with logistics employers, and aims to build on what works, to develop an enhanced framework of qualifications that are more effectively integrated.

The Vision

From a broader perspective, the strategy is a key contributor to the vision proposed by Skills for Logistics:

To move companies in the logistics sector away from the ad hoc purchasing of training interventions and towards a culture of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

The aim of this strategy is to create a framework of qualifications that demonstrates and facilitates progression and achievement underpinning the vision. Providing the framework for continuous professional development will be Skills for Logistics’ Professional Development Stairway which clearly identifies the key competencies and knowledge required at each level within the logistics sector.
