The research has clearly demonstrated that the IT & Telecoms sector is still a significant growth sector for the UK economy, and due to IT & Telecoms pervasiveness across all industry sectors, it plays a critical role in supporting the development of a knowledge and innovation based economy.

A key theme from the research is that both the IT & Telecoms workforce and IT users across all sectors need to reach an increasingly high level of knowledge and skills. Work is needed to ensure that training delivery can address specific skills issues and quickly respond to the fast pace of change within the sector.

A number of specific challenges have been identified and highlighted within sections 3 and 4 of this document. To meet these challenges, e-skills UK has developed core principles to be used as a basis for all future qualification and learning development related to the IT & Telecoms workforce and to IT users. The actions associated with these principles will have a significant impact on the manner in which skills and knowledge are assessed and recorded through the use of qualifications. This change will subsequently stimulate further improve the manner in which training delivery and individual learning is conducted.
