Sector Coverage
Skills for Care & Development is the Sector Skills Council for social care, children and young people. Social care policy is fully devolved to each of the four countries. The scope of the sector is defined by legislation in each of the countries, with some differences for the devolved administrations. The current scope of the sector is:
- children's homes;
- care homes;
- domiciliary care and support agencies;
- day centres and services;
- nurseries, childcare and early years services;
- social work;
- fostering agencies and services, and foster carers;
- nurse agencies;
- support services for children and young people; and
- adoption services.
Sector in Brief

It is anticipated that differences in the sector footprints will continue as services evolve to meet specific needs and changing legislative frameworks in individual countries.
