Welcome to the fourth edition of Relicensing News which has been developed to keep employers and other stakeholders informed about the relicensing of the network of 25 Sector Skills Councils.

This edition features; the relicensing decisions for the first five Sector Skills Councils in the process; Skillset, Cogent, People 1st, Semta and Financial Services; an update from the NAO on their activities and feedback deadlines for the fifth and final tranche of SSCs.

Relicensing Decisions: Tranche 1

On Monday 11 May 2009, Skills Secretary John Denham, announced the relicensing decisions for the first five Sector Skills Councils in the process; Skillset, Cogent, People 1st, Semta and Financial Services.

Each recommendation is based on; consideration of the National Audit Office (NAO) assessment report, outcomes of a site visit by a designated UKCES Commissioner and a full Relicensing Panel at which both the Chair and CEO of the SSC meet with Commissioners to make their case. Each recommendation is ratified by the full Commission.

NAO Update

The National Audit Office has completed its analysis of SSCs in tranche three and four. Tranche three draft reports were sent out to each of the Councils to ensure factual accuracy at the end of April. Once agreed, final reports were submitted to the UK Commission in readiness for the Commissioner visit, followed by the Relicensing Panel which takes place the 19 May. Tranche four draft reports will be sent to each of the SSCs at the end of May.
