Additional Information

There are differences in terms used and framework contents in each UK nation.  In Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, modern apprenticeships are at Level 3.  In Scotland  there are traineeships at Level 2 and in England the term modern apprenticeship has been changed to foundation apprenticeship (L2) and advanced apprenticeships (L3) in the context of the introduction of the family of apprenticeships.

How apprenticeships relate to other areas

14-19 Curriculum – the English 14-19 White Paper states that apprenticeships will be integrated with the Diplomas.
National Occupational Standards (NOS) – these employer-led standards provide the foundation for the competence-based components of apprenticeships/modern apprenticeships.
Sector Qualifications Strategies (SQS) – these are the strategic overviews with implementation planning of the qualifications needed by a sector. apprenticeships/modern apprenticeships will include qualifications developed as a result of SQSs.
Credit and Qualifications Frameworks –  projects are being taken forward to clarify how credit can be added to the qualifications that are used in apprenticeships/modern apprenticeship schemes.
Influencing education and training - are one of the key progression routes from an apprenticeship and support work-based learning at the higher levels.
