14-19 Curriculum

The aims of the Sector Skills Councils (SSCs)/Sector Skills Bodies (SSBs) are:

  • To ensure every young person has a sound grounding in the basics of English, Maths, ICT and the wider employability skills required of new entrants to the labour market to establish high quality, applied learning routeways leading to rewarding careers - either directly, or after participation in higher education to give young people a sound understanding of the world of work
  • For England, the main objectives are to take stock of the English 14-19 White Paper and to consider the implications for the SSCs/SSBs. This will entail influencing the overall architecture of the 14-19 qualifications structure, including the setting of national standards for England.

The work will ensure that the curriculum has the appropriate mixture of academic knowledge, vocationally specific content and generic skills required by employers and that the delivery arrangements are robust and realise aspirations of employers.

The SSCs/SSBs will also work with partners to consider the appropriateness of 14-19 provision in each home nation, identifying and promoting good practice.
