Mike Campbell, Director of Research and Policy

Mike was previously Director of Development (2007-08), Strategy and Research (2004-07) and Policy and Research (2002-04) at the Sector Skills Development Agency. Before that, he was the Founding Director of the Policy Research Institute and Professor of Public Policy at Leeds Metropolitan University from 1988-2002.

He has undertaken extensive research and consultancy for the OECD, European Commission and World Bank as well as several UK Government departments and many agencies. He was Adviser to the Leitch Review and a member of the European Commission’s ‘New Skills for New Jobs’ Expert Group. He is also a member of the Northern Ireland Employment and Skills Advisory Board. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts; an Investors in People Ambassador; and Visiting Professor of Economics at Durham Business School. He has also been a British Council Distinguished Visiting Fellow to Japan and Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Hiroshima. He was awarded the OBE for services to economic development in 2004. Mike has made more than 600 presentations at conferences throughout the world.
