The UKAS Publications List will be updated on the final working day of each month. The Publications list will be up-issued regardless of whether there are changes or not. Changes since the previous edition will be shown below. The current version of the publications list will be referenced on the home page under the Information Centre heading and will indicate whether or not there have been changes since the previous edition.
Organisations are required to comply with current editions of all UKAS publications relevant to their accreditation or application. As well as UKAS publications, accredited and applicant organisations should be aware of international publications relevant to their area of accreditation, available from the EA, IAF and ILAC websites. Accredited and Applicant Organisations, and Assessors currently engaged by UKAS, must check that they either have an up-to-date copy of every publication relevant to their activities or have web access available to be able to access those documents as required.

General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories
Publications that provide guidance on meeting these requirements in specific areas are listed in UKAS Publications List (M4). It is the responsibility of the laboratory to obtain and maintain current their own copy of ISO/IEC 17025.
UKAS laboratory publications (the LAB series) give guidance in the form of extra information, detail and specific limitations with respect to the application of the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025. By following this guidance, laboratories will be able to demonstrate at assessment that they meet the relevant requirements. However, a laboratory may use alternative methods, provided that they are shown to give an equivalent outcome.

Asbestos 4 Stage Site Clearance Testing
UKAS' 4-stage clearance pilot project was successfully completed at the end of January 2006. The guidance produced for the project was determined to be fit-for-purpose and is currently being incorporated into an update of LAB 30. In the interim the guidance document produced for the project (see below) remains valid for all laboratories undertaking this area of work.
