Welcome to the Inclusion Institute website

The International School for Communities, Rights and Inclusion (ISCRI), at the University of Central Lancashire, is pleased to announce a new national and international initiative on social inclusion.

The Inclusion Institute, led by Prof. David Morris, takes forward the work of the cross-government National Social Inclusion Programme as a centre of excellence for learning, evidence, innovation and practice on inclusion in the context of both personalisation and sustainable, engaged communities.

Based at Kings Fund, London as well as Preston, Lancashire, the Inclusion Institute utilises the philosophy, expertise and learning resources of the National Social Inclusion Programme, working co-productively with citizens to:

  • build a sustainable and practical evidence base on inclusion, linked to:
  • local support for development and practice

With a number of Academic and Developmental Associates to augment the broad range of resources of ISCRI, the Institute offers established learning networks, bespoke practice developement, teaching and course development and practice-based evaluation and research. Together with its national partner and affiliate organisations, it supports work on inclusion in older people, families, dementia and disability services as well as mental health.

About the International School for Communities, Rights and Inclusion

The International School for Communities, Rights and Inclusion (ISCRI) was established in August 2008 by the merger of six existing academic units. It is led by Professor Lord Patel of Bradford and aims to be the foremost higher education School in the UK and internationally dedicated to cross-disciplinary, multi-cultural, academically rigorous study of the interface between individuals and society at a time of significant global uncertainties.

ISCRI comprises two major centres (Psychosocial Research and Wellbeing, and Social Policy and Community Engagement) and three institutes of which the Inclusion Institute is one.

ISCRI also aims to have a strong national and international voice for equality and human rights, challenging injustice, and seeking to ensure the voice of users is heard by all types of institutions.

Looking to the future - the National Social Inclusion Programme

The Inclusion Institute takes forward the work of the National Social Inclusion Programme (NSIP), which closed on 31st March 2009. NSIP was a four year programme established in late 2004 to oversee the implementation of the cross government action plan from the Social Exclusion Unit (SEU) report "Mental Health and Social Exclusion" 2004.
