September 2011

As the countdown to Cambridge begins, this month’s cover story is an interview with the man who put the programme together, ITV’s CEO Adam Crozier. Few people can claim to have changed TV forever, but John de Mol is one of that select group. Andrew Billen profiles the Endemol co-founder as the BBC prepares to bring his latest hit, The Voice, to UK homes.

We are acutely aware of the benefits the internet gives us. But there is a growing body of opinion emphasising its dark side – and that, far from enriching our social lives, the likes of Facebook can have a malign effect on human relationships. Simon Shaps reviews the evidence. He finds that his own relationship with Amazon is even closer than he thought.

To escape from this world of cyber-phobia, don’t miss John Trenouth’s fascinating history of Alexandra Palace, as the home of the world’s first regular high-definition TV service prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary.
