The fifth of the Royal Navy’s six-strong Type 45 destroyer fleet, Defender, will be launched on Wednesday 21st October 2009 at BVT’s shipyard in Govan. The launch of Defender is an important step towards her delivery to the Royal Navy which will add more capacity to the Navy’s air defence capability as she joins her sister ships as one of the largest and most powerful warships in the world.
