I’m pleased to report that my recovery from illness continues and I am starting to feel more like my old self again. That said I still can’t do any training which is leading to a bit of boredom at home! I have therefore been sorting through some admin and decided to bring my photo albums up to date seeing as looking at pictures of me sailing is the closest I can get to it right now. In the mix are a couple of professional pictures taken last year at a photo shoot organised by our team sponsor Skandia. The photos are now being exhibited in the ‘Blown Away Exhibition’ and were taken by Robert Wilson, a top photographer who has tried to get a different perspective on sailing. Unfortunately he hasn’t airbrushed any of my wrinkles out so I’m don’t quite look like a top model! More pictures from the exhibition can be viewed at www.skandia.co.uk. The rest of the pictures are from my sailing and training this year.

Penny grew up in Wombourne in the West Midlands before joining the Royal Navy in 1993 as a University Cadet Entry Officer. Her first appointment was as the Deputy Marine Engineer Officer of HMS MANCHESTER in which she deployed to the West Indies before entering refit. Other appointments have included Engineer Officer Training Officer, Future Technologies Officer and a return to University to gain a MSc in Marine Engineering. In October 2006 Penny took a 2 year career break to pursue her goal of representing Great Britain at the Olympic Games. She was selected for Bejing in 2008 and made the final in the Laser Radial class, finishing 10th. Not satisfied with this performance, Penny has now switch to the Women’s doublehanded class and is now campaigning full time for the 2012 Olympic Games which will be held on the waters of Weymouth Bay.
