A newly published study, by a team including PSI's Francesca Francavilla, provides a comparison of the size and value of unpaid family care work in two European member states, Italy and Poland. The paper discusses the national values of these activities and an interpretation of the country differentials in the family care-taking gender gaps is given in terms of differences in culture, economic development and institutions.

A new report for the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) by the Policy Studies Institute and SOAS sets out some of the outcomes of BIG-funded projects that support microenterprise and small-scale business development in poor communities around the world. It examines economic outcomes - such as income, employment creation, food security and skill development - and the effect of interventions on social outcomes such as health and education.

The use of reward and recognition schemes in enhancing recycling and waste prevention behaviour
This project will highlight key lessons for policy and practice regarding the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of incentive-based waste-related schemes, and examine which incentives work, with whom, in what contexts, and in conjunction with which other policy tools. It will also explore the possibility of secondary outcomes, including both positive and negative spillover effects. |
