A major consultation on the future of police reform was launched on 4 November 2003 entitled: “Policing: Building Safer Communities Togetherpdf logo (file size 304kb).

The vision behind this paper is to improve community engagement in policing; to create a police service which is more responsive and accountable to local communities; and better able to deal with serious and organised crime. We have set out the broad direction of reform in the consultation paper but there is no blueprint in Whitehall for how we achieve this.

We welcome views from everyone who has an interest in community safety - the public, the police and all other organisations with an interest in the issues raised.

The deadline for responses and comments is Tuesday 27th January 2004.

There are a number of means by which you can send us your views:

Discussion Forum:

You can register to use the discussion forum on these pages. It would be helpful if all messages posted indicate which section of the paper you are referring to. There is no requirement for you to post details of who you are/ what organisation you work for - but if you are happy to post these details it would help us in assessing the responses to the consultation.
