Statement by Brigadier Roger Brunt,
Op Fresco planning staff - 24 November

The emergency nationwide firefighting cover which has been in place since 0900 on 22 November has coped well, and the training of personnel and their deployment have been proved effective. After a number of demanding incidents, most notably the factory fire in West Bromwich, the equipment made available to the Services is performing well, and we are currently enjoying high levels of equipment availability: 98% of the Green Goddesses, 99% of the Red Goddesses, and 100% of the rescue vehicles have been available over the period. However, there is no room for complacency. The distribution of equipment and personnel will be kept under review, and, if circumstances dictate, changes will be made as required.

As at midnight on 23 November, 5350 calls had been received by Joint Operation Control Centres and personnel had responded to 2293. I am confident that the Servicemen and women involved in the operation will be able to cope with whatever is asked of them over the eight day period.
